Bed Rest and Waiting

It has been a while since I posted because I haven't felt like a much of a writer lately.

Two weeks ago, I went in for an unexpected doctor's appointment. I woke up on a Friday morning and just didn't feel like myself.  I decided to go to school to complete testing, but things weren't getting any better. My last indicator came when the guidance counselor walked by me and casually remarked, "Bless your heart~"  Did I look as bad as I felt?????

I called the doctor and went on in to see how things were going.  Our first surprise was a 15 POUND weight gain in 9 days.  Plus my blood pressure was up. Dr. Owens didn't want to take any chances~ machines and monitoring were quickly added to my day's agenda.

So, amongst torrential downpours and violent thunderstorms, Jeff headed to Western Baptist while I headed to labor and delivery.  I got settled in and waited for a nurse~ obviously torrential downpours also bring on labor and delivery... The head charge nurse came in and pleasantly started my paperwork.  She sweetly asked me what # baby this was for me, and of course I responded, "#1"

Her tone changed immediately... "oh well honey, sometimes with your first one...." you can imagine the speech she was beginning with me. I quickly interrupted her and said, "I am not in labor, I don't think I am in labor and I wasn't the one who chose to come to labor and delivery today... My doctor sent me down here! So obviously he wants something monitored."

She suddenly had other patients to check in on... which was alright by me.

A wonderfully sweet nurse came in soon thereafter and took wonderful care of me.  We can only hope she is there the day I really go into labor. After a couple of hours and paces on the tile floor by Mr. Tucker, Dr. Owen came in to check on me. Other than the tree trunks as legs and swollen sausages as feet, all was well.

Next, the two words I dreaded most and swore would never apply to me... BED REST!!!  I was directed to go home, get in bed, lie on my left side and keep my feet above my heart.  "Remain that way until Monday!" He sounded kind of serious, so I decided I best follow his directions.  He even promised his white coat to Jeff if he thought it would help me listen at home~

So for the last two weeks, I have been in bed.  I waddle into the doctor every 3 to 5 days with improved reports each time and lessened restrictions.  All is well and getting better! We are slowly getting things together in the nursery, thanks to my wonderful mother, and Jeff is trying not to go crazy with anxiety.  Baby girl is coming and none of us are quite prepared enough!!!!

Whether we are completely prepared or not, we are truly on our countdown... 17 days and counting!!!
